Tonnage Report / Shipment Volume

Overview

The Tonnage Report (also referred to as Shipment Volume Report) in Fr8Labs provides insights into the total cargo handled by your company. It measures performance in terms of:

  • Weight (kg / tons)

  • Volume (CBM)

  • TEUs (for containers)

  • Number of Shipments

This report is used by management to track business growth, evaluate trade lanes, and support reporting to carriers or associations.

Accessing the Report

This report is accessible through metabase.

  1. Go to Reports → Operations → Tonnage Report.

  2. Choose your filters:

    • Date Range (e.g., monthly, quarterly, yearly).

    • Mode (Ocean Import, Ocean Export, Air Import, Air Export).

    • Customer / Partner (optional filter).

    • Branch / Cost Center (if applicable).

Report Breakdown

The report summarizes:

  • By Mode – Air, Ocean, Trucking, etc.

  • By Trade Lane – Origin/Destination pairs.

  • By Carrier or Co-loader – volume allocated to each partner.

  • By Customer – tonnage/volume handled per client.

  • By Operator / Salesperson – useful for performance measurement.

Example Use Cases

  • Management Reporting – track total freight handled this month vs. same period last year.

  • Carrier Negotiations – present consolidated volume when discussing rates or allocation.

  • Sales Performance – identify top customers by tonnage/volume.

  • Trade Lane Analysis – measure growth or decline in specific routes.

Export & Sharing

  • Reports can be exported to Excel (XLSX), CSV, or PDF.

  • Export grouped summaries (e.g., “TEUs by Carrier”) for commercial discussions.

  • Export detailed shipment-level data for internal audits or customer reporting.

Key Points to Remember

  • Ensure Job dimensions (weight, CBM, TEU) are entered correctly when creating shipments, as these feed directly into the report.

  • The report supports both summary and detailed views—use filters for quick management snapshots or drill down for shipment-level data.

  • Saved filters (e.g., “Monthly Tonnage by Customer”) can be reused for recurring reporting.

  • For financial insights, combine Tonnage Report with P&L by Customer to see volume vs. profitability.
